The big day!

Yesterday was the big day!  We met Mom and Dad at the clinic for the ultrasound, so the room was pretty packed!  Steve was running a little later than he planned, but he still made it without missing anything. :-)  When the technician got the ultrasound started, the baby was pretty laid back and still, but we could see the head and the mouth moving.  Everything went very well, and Bean looks to be a healthy baby!  The tech checked a lot of different things.  We got to see the four chambers of the heart (159 bpm) and could even see the valves opening and closing.  She looked at the brain and told us a lot of the different parts, although I wasn't sure what all the terms were.  The face/mouth looked good, as well as the stomach, spine, and tiny feet.

We didn't want to find out the gender during the ultrasound, so we looked away while the technician checked, and after she finished, she put the labeled picture into an envelope.  Nobody seemed to trust me with the dvd and the envelope, so Steve took them with him.  Since we were heading straight to Rick's Bakery in Fayetteville, we dropped Steve's truck off at the Pilot in Springdale and drove together in my car.  When we got to the bakery, I said, "Grab the envelope and let's head inside!"  Steve replied, "..........It's in the truck."  At this point, it was 5:00, and the bakery closed at 6:00.  Since it was rush hour and we were in the middle of Fayetteville, we didn't think we could make it back in time.  So, we had to call Dad, who had watched the whole ultrasound and knew the secret.  Although it wasn't our original plan, I don't think finding out that news could ever be disappointing!

After we ordered the cake, we ate dinner and did a little bit of shopping. :-)  During dinner, Steve tortured his poor mom by teasing her about the news.  He was texting her back and forth and FINALLY told her that the baby is a __________.  (Have to wait until Saturday!)  We found several CUTE outfits and then headed home worn out.

I've watched the ultrasound video about five times and just cannot get tired of it!  I'm looking forward to getting to tell family on Saturday and then telling my kids at school on Monday. :-)  Look for more pics soon!
