We worked for days on the word "zoo," and after lots of "zzzzzzzzz"ing, Trey finally got to "zah." Close enough! :-) Tuesday, Mom and Joey picked us up, and we headed to Tulsa. We started off with a ride on the carousel, which was such a hit, that's what we did right before we left too! Trey really enjoyed running around and looking at the animals but honestly seemed just as enthralled by chain link fences, bugs, and holes in the sidewalk. :-)
Our one funny was after we had walked down in the grass to get closer to the rhinos. Mom went back up the hill to stop by the bathroom, and Joey had run on ahead of me and Trey. I steered the stroller toward a little gravel path, but as soon as I ramped over the railroad ties, I realized we weren't going anywhere in the gravel. About that time, I noticed four geese that had turned toward us, so I pointed them out to Trey. My brain was kind of processing everything at the same time, and I realized the geese didn't look too friendly, so I quickly tried to get us back out on the grass where we could escape the hissing creatures. About this time, Trey decides to toss one of his Cheetos Puffs toward the geese, so they came barrelling toward us. There wasn't much to do at that point except laugh and hope that the snack distracted the geese long enough for us to get away. Trey was NOT helping our escape, that's for sure!
We definitely enjoyed our visit to the zoo and hope to go back soon. It still seems crazy to me that my little fella is big enough to ride the carousel and run around looking at the animals, but I love seeing him experience new things. :-)

Fevers are no fun :-(
Last week was kind of a long one around here. All day Tuesday, I kept thinking Trey felt kind of warm. He's pretty hot natured anyway, but I finally took his temperature, and it was 100.7. It seemed a little high for teething, but other than being warm, there were absolutely no other symptoms. My mom and brother came over to hang out with us the next day. Trey still didn't have any other symptoms, but he didn't seem to be quite himself, and his poor eyes just had that look. I went ahead and gave him some ibuprofen before bed at 7, and his temp was still just under 101. When I went to check on him before I went to bed at 11, his fever was up above 102. I gave him some acetaminophen, but he woke me up around 3, and his fever was up to 104. :-( I took him to the living room, and he was just so hot, and his poor little heart was going so fast. I actually took his pulse, and it was 180!
At that point, I woke Steve up because I wasn't sure that we didn't need to head to the ER. We decided to try a few options first, so I have him another dose of ibuprofen and held him in a tepid shower. Three o'clock in the morning and taking a not hot shower is not anyone's favorite thing, so when he cried when I tried to take his blanket, I decided a lukewarm shower wouldn't hurt the blankie! Thankfully we have eight of those things, so there was a dry one waiting! Even though it was a little chilly after our shower, I kept Trey in a diaper and grabbed a cold bottle of water out of the fridge for him to drink. Thankfully after all of that, his fever dropped back down to around 102. We kept him in our bed for the rest of the night because I really wanted to keep an eye on him. First thing the next morning, I called our doctor's office and got an appointment for 9:30.
I purposefully didn't give him any meds after the 3 am dose because I wanted the doctor to see how he was doing. His fever was still at 102, so they gave him some Motrin there. Everything looked fine, but she did call in an antibiotic since he was on day three with a fever. I really don't like unnecessary antibiotics, so I thought we'd see how Trey did the rest of the day before we got the meds. Thankfully his fever stayed back down under 101 with fever reducers, even through the night. After one more dose of ibuprofen the next morning, his fever didn't come back! Yay! Although I do NOT like fevers, especially ones that get that high in the middle of the night (Murphy's law!), I sure enjoyed all the extra snuggles I got while Trey was sick. I'm thankful to have my healthy, happy little boy back though!

14 weeks and 19 months
I feel like I'm finally crawling out of my pukey cave back into reality. Ok, maybe it wasn't that bad, but the all day long sickness has definitely seemed worse with Baby #2. Taking medicine while I'm pregnant makes me nervous, but after having to have my mom come over during week 5 of this pregnancy to help take care of Trey because I was so sick, I decided I had to do something. My OB with Trey recommended 1/2 a Unisom and 25 mg of B6 every night, so I've been taking that for the last forever. I was starting to feel quite a bit better last week, so I skipped my medicine last Monday, but ended up being sick Tuesday, so I'm back on the meds. With Trey's pregnancy, I was better by 16 weeks, so hopefully within the next few weeks, I'll be enjoying this lovely second trimester. :-)
I'll start taking pictures soon since I feel like I'm showing earlier this go 'round. Granted, part of it is my smooshy belly left over from Trey that just has nowhere to hide anymore, but I'm in that awkward stage where my normal clothes don't fit, but my maternity clothes are too big. Thankfully I can spend most of my days at home with Trey in my mom uniform of jogging shorts and a t-shirt. It's kind of fun getting dressed for church on Sundays and seeing what doesn't fit anymore. :-)
We've had one appointment with our midwife so far. Trey and I went to see Lucy on August 1st and went over all of our paperwork and got to listen to the baby's heartbeat. Since I hadn't had any appointments yet, feeling queasy has been the only reassuring symptom, so it was very exciting to hear the baby's heart. The heartrate was in the upper 150s. We go back on the 27th of this month, and I have an appointment for all my bloodwork in early October. Even though we're going the midwife/homebirth route, I still want to have an ultrasound to make sure everything looks good (and to find out the gender, of course!), so that will be around the beginning of November probably.
I also need to do a catch up on what Trey's up to, but since it's after 9:00, and I've already taken my Unisom, we will just do this in bullet form and avoid any attempt at organization.
Ok, I know there is so much more, but I am ready for bed! Hopefully I'll be better about documenting things on here so that it's not so hard to remember everything after months of not blogging! And just because it's the sweetest thing ever... (and this is with him running a fever for the last day and a half. I love this boy!)

- He weighs around 25 pounds. In a size 4/5 diaper and wearing mostly 18 month clothes and size 6 shoes.
- He sleeps so so well! I worried about his transition from getting rocked to sleep to going to bed on his own, but typical Trey, he handled the change like it was nothing. After we pray and sing a song or two, he lays down in his crib with Brown Bear, Pooh Bear, and a few blankies and is out for the night. He goes to bed around 7:15 and sleeps until around 7 AM. I am in no hurry to move him to a big boy bed because he shows no inclination to climb out his crib, and with him sleeping so well, I'm not going to mess with a good thing! :-)
- He loves to color. Loves to vacuum. :-)
- The little guy talks all the time. A lot of it is still jabber, but he's definitely getting more vocab. I always hate trying to remember all his words because I invariably forget some, but here's what my mommy brain can remember right now:
- night night (ni ni)
- more
- bye bye
- hi
- meow/woof woof
- boom (thunder)
- mama (finally says it in reference to me, and not just when he's crying!)
- da
- fruit (fwooo)
- milk
- diaper (sometimes di, sometimes puh, sometimes di-puh)
- bear
- bubbles (buh)
- please (plaaaaaaaah - often in a high sing songy voice)
- blanket (bane)
- I love you
- We still have a hard time with class on Sunday mornings. Since I can watch the sermon online, a lot of Sundays, I'd just end up staying back with Trey in class, but really, I enjoy sitting and listening to the sermon with Steve, and Trey is going to have to learn to be away from me eventually. :-) I think it's just harder for me than for him! With me staying at home, Sunday school is basically the only time he's away from me, and since it's not family watching him, it's a little harder. After crying for a few minutes, he does fine though.
- Trey loves to play outside. We take his Cars riding toy out on the sidewalk a lot, and he really likes going down the little slope on the sidewalk beside the house. I've taken him out to play in the rain a few times, and that has been a big hit! Unfortunately, he doesn't understand why he can't go out when it's storming!
- He still eats really well. I think cottage cheese is the only thing he has completely snubbed. Smoothies are his new favorite. I just need to find some good add ins to make them even more healthy!
- He learned how to show the number one with his finger. We've tried two, but it just cracks me up watching him try to figure it out. :-)
| It's bad when even the toddler is shocked by the stuff in the couch cushions! :-) |
